Description
The decorative tile La Bella addormentata nel bosco (Sleeping Beauty in the forest) by Fairytiles is inspired by the fairy tale of the same name.
A young girl sleeps peacefully in a Venice that has been abandoned for a hundred years. Aquatic plants have now invaded the city, coiling like snakes around the bridges and forming a dense wood in the middle of the canals. The beauty, gently rocked by the roll of a boat, rests oblivious to the passing of time and the incessant spread of vegetation.
It seems that the piles on which the city laid its foundations centuries ago are taking over. The trunks grow out of all proportion in search of a breath of air, which has always been denied beneath the surface of the lagoon water.
The enchantment is broken one full-moon night, when a fearless Prince Charming decides to go into the thick of the island. Struggling hard against the tangled foliage, he reaches the boat where the beautiful girl lies. The tiles frame the dynamism and courage of the fleeting moment before the kiss so eagerly awaited by the narrator and the listener: a heroic leap from the Cannaregio bridge to the princess’s boat. The force of the leap makes the prince’s crown fly away: let’s hope it lands next to his Sleeping Beauty!

First firing of the biscuit in the kiln, drawing of the design in pencil, application of the glaze by hand using the saving technique.
