My name is Michele Garlato, I was born and still live in Venice, and I have been working with plexiglass for almost twenty years.
I learned in an artisan workshop in Venice, where I often support, and where I started to create, years ago, almost for fun … From there came out the first sculptures: mainly symbols of my city, such as forcole, bricole, gondola feri, and other various objects. All of them are handmade, handcrafted, both ‘hot’ and ‘cold’, always using ‘magazen bottoms’, with the aim of giving new life to pieces that would have ended up in the dump.
A few years ago, pursuing the same idea of sustainability and recycling, I started to create a new line of accessories to wear, born from the remains of plexiglass that I found in the garbage cans.
It’s called MiGa Design and now, with my stall, I do street markets in small squares and associations, but you can also find my creations in some stores in Venice.
