Description
Hovering between reality and fiction, Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable is the new, great provocation of Damien Hirst. A project on which the artist has been working for over ten years, complex and ambitious, exceptional in its dimensions and intentions.
The catalog accompanies Damien Hirst’s exhibition in Venice, which spans the 5,000 square meters of Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana, for the first time entrusted to a single artist. It tells the story of the shipwreck of the ship Unbelievable, which occurred in the first century AD, displaying the precious cargo resurfaced from the waters: the impressive collection belonged to the freedman slave Cif Amotan II.
Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable is the creation of a great myth, hinged on ambivalence, on fable and verisimilitude. At a time when everything seems to have already been written, said and invented, Hirst proves that art can still stimulate thoughts and fantasies. The catalog is published in bookstores, enriched by photos of the installations at Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana.
